The Platinum
Torch National Service Honorary was founded in 2002 to support the efforts
of and provide distinction for American student volunteers, and to further encourage
outstanding community service. Membership in the
Platinum Torch includes students from high schools
and college campuses across the United States.
The Platinum
Torch National Service Honorary is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization designed
to increase volunteerism on campus, and establish formal recognition on a national basis that
community service is acknowledged as an essential component of the
academic experience.
By formally recognizing student
volunteers on the national level, community service becomes an avenue to differentiate
students in the same manner as academic excellence and athletic achievement.
By introducing students to the importance of service,
the Platinum Torch hopes to
develop lifelong patterns of volunteerism and begin a student-based effort to lead
by example so as to encourage and inspire community service among their peers.
The
Platinum Torch exists to help make a difference
in your life as your efforts make a difference in your community. Until now, there
has not been any formal avenue to recognize and inspire community service for
students.
Too often, standardized test scores
and grades are perceived as the only way to stand apart from the crowd. In reality,
students with diverse experiences and interests are every bit as important to employers
and colleges.
Today, increased applications to
colleges and graduate schools had created strong competition for the fixed number of
admissions and employers are even more selective during college recruiting. To that end,
college admissions, scholarship providers, and corporate recruiters are looking for
individuals with a personal code of responsibility, teamwork, and leadership,
and they are beginning to use community service as a method of differentiation.
The Platinum Torch
provides an official Community Service Transcript to admission offices
and prospective employers.
Volunteering helps provide those
qualities and helps you obtain a competitive advantage on your
application or resume.
You are invited to join our growing
membership and demonstrate the importance of service not only to your employers and academia,
but also to other students…setting an example to your peers.

A word from
our Executive Director:
"Being
a volunteer gives you the power to make a positive impact. Then,
not only do your efforts promote healthy communities, but you also
benefit by the experience, foster citizenship, attain knowledge
and leadership ability, and gain personal growth. So whether you
volunteer to build houses, teach reading to a child, or help at
an animal shelter, you are enriching lives by fulfilling your desire
to give back."
