Why Start a Chapter:

The only national organization that honors students solely based on outstanding community service

Membership is made up of students nationwide

Community Service Transcript, which provides admissions offices and prospective employers
with confirmation of information entered on applications/resumes

Participate in a new and dynamic movement to promote the importance of community service on your campus

Recognition of your high school or college in the
Platinum Torch community.

Installation convocation will be conducted at the end of the school year,
along with Achievement Levels awards given to members.

Benefit your community by continued volunteer activities performed by chapter members.
Criteria
Interested group with support of host institution must complete a
Platinum Torch Chapter Application.
The group must meet the following criteria:

A new chapter for a high school must have at least 5 active members;
while a college chapter requires a minimum of 10 active members.
If you wish to start a chapter at your school and need to know other
students who may be members, please contact the National Office.

Platinum Torch National Service Honorary
membership is offered to all high school students,
freshman through senior year, and all public and private college undergraduate and
post-graduate students who have distinguished themselves by their commitment to service.
The college may be either a 2 or 4-year institution.
The Platinum Torch
seeks diversity in membership.

A Platinum Torch Advisor needs to be identified from the ranks of faculty, administration, or full-time staff;
e.g., guidance, student affairs, service-learning, volunteer offices, or related areas.
The advisor will certify and maintain local records of hours volunteered by members.
Chartering Procedures:

Complete the Chapter Application once the minimum active membership number is achieved and after an advisor has been
selected from the host high school or college. Submit to
Platinum Torch National Office.

Upon approval from National Office, the Chapter will be assigned the chapter designation name.

Chapter must adopt the Constitution
for the educational institution.
See Constitution template provided by National Office.
Election of officers is to be communicated to the National Office.

Establish a bank account or method of handling financial matters.
A local address may be obtained, if desired. Email address at school may be established.

Local chapters are encouraged to raise funds to sustain operations.

The National Office will provide the chapter with a logo for stationery, merchandise for sale,
brochures, flyers, and methods of attracting new members.

An Installation of Officers and Honors Ceremony will be conducted at the end of the academic year.

The
Platinum Torch National Office will approve the new
Platinum Torch Chapter.
The
Platinum Torch Executive Director will communicate with the new Chapter to
detail the procedures and policies.
Each Chapter will be responsible for organizing and conducting at least one community
service project each year. Platinum or Fellow level members in the
Platinum Torch Chapter
may apply for a Seed Grant to help finance this project.
